Today’s lesson is allll about file types. Have you ever been asked for a file and it doesn’t open or your not sure which is the type to send. Well this here should help ya out a bit!
There is more than just a jpeg, so Let’s learn about some file types!
First! you should know the difference between:
RASTER- Made up of tiny squares called pixels.
VECTOR- Made of paths allowing them to be scaled large or small.
.JPEG
Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group
This is what your photo files probably are
Can use online and in print, depending on size
Can save at a certain size (but is a raster image)
.EPS
Encapsulated PostScript File
Vector file
Can save in place of .ai file to be able to open in different versions of Adobe
Can open in multiple platforms
.SVG
Scalable Vector Graphics
Vector file
Similar to an .eps file
Used more on the web
Retains the same quality no matter what screen resolution or size they are being looked at on.
.TIFF
Tagged Image File
Raster file
High-quality graphics like photos
Supports layers and transparent backgrounds
Can save (and open) from Photoshop
.PDF
Portable Document Format File
Can be raster or vector depending on how it was created
Captures files with text, fonts, images and formatting
